The History of Truck 23 by Joe O'Brien

In 1891, Truck 23 was organized in the Jefferson Park neighborhood on the Northwest side of Chicago. The original truck was a horse-drawn combination truck, which had 7 ground ladders, a 40 gallon chemical tank with 250 feet of 1 inch rubber hose and a hose reel at the end of the truck with 350 feet of 2.5 inch hose. In 1906 the new two story brick firehouse was built on the same site as the original Town of Jefferson firehouse. Truck 23 received a standard truck at that time as Engine 108 was organized at the new firehouse on Lipps Ave. As this area still had a lot of prairies, it was not unusual from spring to fall that this house had to respond to a number of prairie fires on any given day.   This station over time would have trucks shoehorned in as the rigs got larger. In 1981 a new fire house was built a few blocks away. The new four-bay station had wider and higher bay doors for the modern rigs. In 1985, Engine 108 got a brand E-One Hurricane.  A few months later, Truck 23 got the fourth of the six E-One Hurricane Tower Ladders. In 1987 Truck 23 was officially renamed Tower 23. After 15 years of front line service as Tower 23 the 1985 Hurricane, shop number D251, was put into the spare pool for another 15 years.

    Amazing details

When you look at the details of this tower you really need to look at the control panel inside the basket. I was blown away on how exact the controls are. Another great example of the amazing details by Fire Replicas.
